In the Bleak Midwinter

I see so many people in my job working in a public library. You can't tell if someone is homeless just by looking. Nobody should have to be without a home. Especially kids and teens.
The words to an old Christmas song came to me, "In the Bleak Midwinter.." because it's cold this time of year, even here in Arizona.

"In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,

Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone…

If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;

Yet what I can I give Him...?"

Angel in the Wreckage

Angel in the Wreckage, originally uploaded by askthemoon.

My library workplace has demolished this lovely light sconce that stretched above checkout. Now machines do that task, and a library angel marks the moment of loss.

Vanity...

I drew this oh, maybe 2 years ago, and recycled it yesterday in Photoshop, making a mirror image of her for Illustration Friday's theme, "Vanity."

"What she sees in the mirror can be addicting. She looks at herself over and over. Soon her friends will not recognize her. She has forgotten them."

She sees only herself even when she is with othes.

she's not crying anymore

she's not crying anymore, originally uploaded by askthemoon.
Pg 86 from "In the Country of the Young" titled after a line in the text.
Prismacolor with flicks of correction fluid for highlights in her eyes.

grab for it

grab for it, originally uploaded by askthemoon.
"I haven't time to think much and the brief two hours are teaching me you grab for it quick."
Blackout poetry. It looks more "serious" to me after I fiddle with it in Photoshop for a while. This is with color effects and then inverted (light to dark).

Running the Books

New work: "Running the Books", about running a prison library inspired the one on the right. The way I felt after reading the book by Avi Steinberg - highly recommend it.

The woman on the left? She is just imagination.
