This architectural detail changes color as the light in the lobby changes. The shapes at upper left are from a clerestory window that drops light from above. The material of the wall and pillar are warm reddish Sedona stone.
I drew this with blue ballpoint pen and then added color later with Prismacolor pencil. This is also Challenge #29: Something Architectural.

You asked for some feedback--in a cursory look, what I see in your work is a narrow range of values, without any really dark darks.
I think drawing is about seeing and practicing seeing. You do seem on your way.
Colored pencils are tough in terms of larger areas and really laying down color, not that it can't be done, but it is more of a challenge. You mentioned pastels-maybe free yourself up with the more easy layering that happens with them instead.
I LOVE Keys to Drawing w/Imagination, which has been mentioned on EDM in the past. It's been really helpful for me.
Be well!

Thanks so much for responding. This is just the kind of advice I can use.
Sometimes I feel like a dog chasing its tail, seeing but not making it mean
anything. I guess we all want others to FEEL the way a certain thing made us
feel, and learning the language to do it takes lots of work.
